Organic Psyllium Husk
Psyllium husks are a natural soluble fibre known to absorb 20 times their own weight in water, they form a soft gel which continues to absorb in the intestinal tract. This helps to clear toxins and prevents them from staying too long in the colon. Psyllium husks are an ideal source of fibre for those that have an intolerance to wheat. They can have a soothing effect on sensitive bowels where fibre from wheat can prove to be too abrasive. Psyllium husks are totally natural and safe. They are used by millions of people throughout the world. They are absorbed by the body and do not stimulate in any way, they are therefore suitable for prolonged use.
Originating in India, Psyllium Husk is a natural food from the seed of the Plantago Ovata plant. Psyllium is rich in dietary fibre, it is very difficult to get enough fibre in a diet when you eliminate the carbohydrates in cereals, whole grains and fruits. It fills you with fibre, reducing appetite without over stimulating the nervous system. Psyllium contains a spongy fibre that swells in liquid, when taken internally it can reduce appetite and is often used to aid dieting. Every 100 grams of psyllium provides 71 grams of soluble fibre; a similar amount of oat bran would contain only 5 grams of soluble fibre. Psyllium is one of the simplest, healthiest and most effective herbs in the 'swollen foods' family. Psyllium has also been used for diarrhoea and constipation because it will produce easy bowel movements with a loose stool. Psyllium soaks up a significant amount of water in the digestive tract, thereby making stool firmer and under these circumstances slows down the pass.
How to take Psyllium:
Psyllium can be taken as part of a detox program, add 1 tablespoon of psyllium to water and mix well, drink as it is or add juice for flavour. Psyllium can be added to smoothies or used in raw food cooking as a thickening/binding agent.
